How To Promote Your Movie With BitTorrent

Independent filmmaker / guest blogger Bojan Dulabic breaks down BitTorrent Bundle. Herewith, his advice on using BitTorrent in your movie marketing mix.

This article was originally posted on May 22, 2014 in Filmmaking Stuff. From Bojan:

I'm in the middle of self distributing my feature film, Living Life or Waiting to Die. If you're in the same position as me, your biggest question is:

"How am I going to promote my movie without spending a fortune?"

A lot of us think social media is the answer. You can share news with your followers on Facebook and Twitter and you will reach a certain number of them. But even if you have hundreds or thousands of Facebook followers, Facebook has changed their policy regarding the reach of organic postings. The truth is, unless you're willing to pay money, your Facebook posts will be seen by much less people than you think. Twitter is still free, which is great. But the problem is, tweets get lost in the noise.

Don't get me wrong. I'm not saying ignore these platforms. You have to be on them every day. I know I am. They are essential tools for promotion. But they're not the only tools for promotion. In fact, I recently found a new way to promote movies. And this is a service most of us don't even think about when it comes to reaching our audience: BitTorrent.

"Say what, you want me to pirate my own stuff?"

Yes, you heard me.

How To Promote Your Movie With BitTorrent

BitTorrent recently created an awesome free service called BitTorrent Bundle. And this allows you to promote your movie with BitTorrent.

This new service allows you to distribute videos, music, ebooks; pretty much any files that can be downloaded. You can give your files away for free, or you can ask for an email address in exchange for content.

Here's how you can promote your movie with BitTorrent.

As I mentioned before, I recently finished my feature film Living Life or Waiting to Die. In order to get the word out, and get more people to subscribe to my mailing list, I decided to give away the following goodies away for free, in exchange for the user's email address:

  • 8 minutes of the film.
  • One theme song.
  • 20 pictures of the shoot.
  • 3 high resolution posters as PDF.
  • Behind the scenes video where I talk about the origins of the story.

The way I set up my BitTorrent Bundle page is that anyone can watch and download the trailer for free, but if they want all the additional content they have to provide me their email address. By doing so, they subscribe to my newsletter.

Results

I published my BitTorrent Bundle page on Jan. 2, 2014. And at the time of this writing, I have had 4691 views on my page. On average I'm getting 34 page views per day and out of those, one person per day is downloading the free bundle.

The technology is getting easy to use.

BitTorrent recently introduced a streaming feature where people don't have to download the bundle using a BitTorrent client. Now people can just stream whatever video they want.

This makes the whole viewing process a lot simpler, which encourages more people to watch the content. This feature has only been around for a little while, but I have already had 54 views in addition to the downloads. I expect that number to go up and eventually surpass the downloads number.

One great plus is the home page where all bundles are displayed. This can generate a lot of traffic, especially, if you are in their featured section.

Search and Tagging

BitTorrent has also recently introduced a search bar. Additionally, all Bundle pages can now be tagged with custom words that describe the content. I have noticed a jump in my downloads number since they introduced this feature.

This service is still in alpha release, which means many more features will be coming our way. And that's really exciting.

The Publisher Community

Because BitTorrent Bundle publishers are a relatively small community, you get to have a lot of input in the product. When you sign up you get to be part of the forum where the creators ask for your input as a user and you get to chat with them. I have submitted many questions and feedback to them directly.

Utilizing Bundle is a great free way to promote your movie with BitTorrent. It allows you to build up your fan base, not just for your current movie, but all movies moving forward. I strongly consider that you promote your movie with BitTorrent as part of your strategy. Sign up for a free account and create as many bundles as you like.

<b>Promote</b> Your Books and <b>Blog</b>: A Look at Author Websites — <b>Blog</b> <b>...</b>

Posted: 27 May 2014 08:00 AM PDT

The comments poured in on our last two posts highlighting new books by WordPress.com authors. We're happy to host such a prolific literary bunch! For those of you interested in using a website to promote your books, take a look at three authors on WordPress.com who do this well — each with very different designs and approaches:

H. G. Robert

We found H. G. Robert's website from a comment he'd left on a previous post. I clicked on his link and was delighted to find a simple, clean, and effective homepage for his self-help book:

The black-and-white design is crisp and stylish, and with just a few elements to focus on, you can't miss anything. A highlighted "Read more" button takes you to another clean, concise page with a book synopsis, excerpt, and reviews.

His menu at the top right includes just two links, to his bio and blog.

H. G. Robert uses the premium Portfolio theme, which offers a number of features; it's interesting to see how users interpret themes to fit their needs, including stripping them down.

Stewart O'Nan

Award-winning author Stewart O'Nan, based in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania, includes links to his writing and important information in his header:

Using the free Typo theme, Stewart includes a virtual shelf of his books right up top — it's the primary element you see when you first visit his site.

He also has a custom menu for various modes of writing — from fiction and nonfiction to essays and book reviews — as well as audio and interviews. In this space, Stewart offers navigation to everything you need to know. While he uses a traditional blog format — with his recent posts listed first — his menu displays the right details to follow all of his work.

Pandaemonium

The website of author, lecturer, and BBC Radio broadcaster Kenan Malik is visual and dynamic. Pandaemonium, which uses the image-oriented Gridspace theme, is a great example of a non-photography-focused site on a photography theme.

Reminiscent of book covers, the front-page thumbnails draw you in — the grid layout is professional, allowing Kenan to showcase images that complement his work. (On Gridspace, you can also toggle between a grid and list view — look for the icons near the top right of the homepage.) He also has a custom menu to his About and Events pages, as well as a Books section that echoes the layout of his front page:

Here, the strong imagery and unified design create a cohesive website.

You can promote your books and writing in many ways. We hope these examples offer some inspiration to build your own website — or expand on your existing one.

Therapist <b>Blog</b> Challenge #11: <b>Promote</b> Gratitude | Private Practice

Posted: 20 Nov 2013 03:20 AM PST

challenge_11Let the benefits of gratitude inspire your next professional blog post.

It's the time of year when Facebook posts, blogs, and tweets take on a tone of gratitude. This is an excellent opportunity for you to share with your readers things that you are grateful for or encourage them to express their gratitude.

  • Share your own gratitude list: This can be as easy as creating a simple list of things you are thankful for, or writing an article about the positive benefits of gratitude on mental health.
  • Write about gratitude and mental health research: Expressing gratitude is beneficial for a person's well-being (Emmons, 2003). Enjoy the benefits this blog might offer for you and your clients. As a marriage and family therapist you might want to cite Gottman's work on positive versus negative interactions with couples and how that can predict relationship longevity (Gottman, 1989).
  • Encourage readers to keep a gratitude journal: I came across this nifty Gratitude Journal app that you could share in your article. Writing down what you are grateful for has been associated with increased happiness and well-being.

Enjoy sharing the benefits gratitude during this time of Thanksgiving!

Additional reminders about the 2013 blog challenge

  • Write and post your blog article in the next 2 weeks. If you miss the deadline or you read this article months later, that's OK too.
  • Post a link for this blog challenge in the comment section of this blog post.
  • Read, comment, and share other therapist's articles.
  • Tweet your post using hashtag #therapistblog and tag @julie_hanks so I can retweet it.
  • Pin it on the challenge Pinterest Board. I've invited everyone who posted a comment on the initial blog challenge post as collaborators so you can pin onto the group board.
  • Spread the word and invite mental health colleagues to join the challenge. Articles can be added anytime throughout the year.
  • Write no more than 600 words, make it easy to read, use a conversational tone, and gear your articles toward your ideal client (not other professionals).
  • The goal of a professional blog is to provide value to your website visitors, help them get to know your professional perspective, increase traffic to your private practice website, and build your practice.

Braves to <b>promote</b> Shae Simmons to the Majors « Bowman&#39;s <b>Blog</b>

Posted: 30 May 2014 09:51 PM PDT

The Braves announced right-handed reliever Shae Simmons has been promoted from Double-A Mississippi to get his first crack at the Major League level.  He  is expected to be in Atlanta's bullpen for Saturday afternoon's game against the Marlins.
Left-handed reliever Ian Thomas was optioned to Triple-A Gwinnett to make room on the 25-man roster for Simmmons. The Braves will have to make another move to clear a spot on the 40-man roster for their newest reliever.

Simmons has posted a 0.78 ERA and recorded 30 strikeouts while issuing just six walks in 23 innings for Double-A Mississippi this year. The hard-throwing right-handed reliever has limited opponents to a .183 batting average. Right-handed hitters have hit just .163 (8-for-49) against him.

While Simmons is likely targeted to stay in Atlanta for the remainder of this season, the need to call him up to the Majors has been hastened by the bullpen struggles experienced this week. A few of the late-inning collapses have highlighted how much the relief corps misses right-handed setup man Jordan Walden, who has been sidelined since May 4 with a strained left hamstring.

The Braves have been encouraged with the progress right-handed reliever Jordan Walden has made while throwing off a mound at the club's Spring Training facility this week. But Walden is not expected to return for at least another week and it remains to be seen how stable his leg proves to be when subjected to his violent delivery on a regular basis.

Simmons' made a quick Cinderella rise to the Majors. The Braves selected him out of Southeast Missouri State in the 22nd round of the 2012 First Year Player Draft.

7 Ways To <b>Promote</b> Your Latest <b>Blog</b> Post - Buzz <b>Blogger</b>

Posted: 26 May 2014 05:46 AM PDT

Hey there! Kim Roach here and welcome to the very first episode of the 10-Minute Marketing Show. Where we help entrepreneurs build a life and business they love in just 10 minutes per day.

Every episode will be rapid-fire. 10-minutes of actionable strategies that you can use to grow your business.

So without further ado, let's dive into our very first 10 minutes of marketing…

One of the biggest questions I get asked is how to promote your latest blog post. So in today's episode I'm going to teach you my top 7 strategies for promoting your latest blog post. You can use this as a checklist to ensure that you get at least 1,000 visitors to EVERY new blog post.

How to Promote Your Latest Blog Post…

1. Send an email to your subscriber list.

In online marketing, your email list is KING. We personally use our subscriber list to generate around 2,000 visitors PER email.

Your business should be BUILT on email. Building a community of raving fans who look forward to your next email.

So your first step is to email your existing subscriber base. By creating consistent content for your subscribers, you're able to build trust, authority, and a long-term relationship with your
subscribers.

Remember, every sale is BUILT on trust. You have to earn it by giving good value FIRST.

2. Share your blog post on your social media platforms.

The big 3 here include Twitter, Facebook, and Google Plus.

* Schedule to go out multiple times on Twitter & Google Plus.

Schedule your blog post to be published at least 4-5 times throughout the week. You can automate this using a tool like BufferApp.

This also allows you to test out different headlines and hooks.

I recommend sharing your post twice on Facebook and Google Plus.

Facebook – Link post. (Make sure you have a good feature image.)

Then you can share it again a few days later on Facebook with a different photo and a different hook.

Sharing a post on Google Plus:

* Large, high-quality photo. (Eye candy is important on Google Plus)
* Add a few popular hashtags.
* Format your post. *bold* _italic_
* Tag people who are mentioned in the article.

The optimal image size for Google Plus is 800 pixels w x 1200 pixels h

This vertical image stands out and will get you a TON of virtual real estate in the Google Plus news feed.

3. Share in Twitter Tribes like JustRetweet.com and Triberr.com.

JustRetweet is a social sharing community. It's essentially a huge blogging alliance that works together to promote each other's content.

This is a super simple strategy for getting your first 20-30 retweets and Facebook likes. Which will immediately kick off your first bit of momentum.

4. Share on Google Plus Communities.

Google Plus should be a BIG priority in your content marketing strategy. It's actually one of our top traffic sources. Our latest post (top 60 WordPress Plugins) received over 1,000 visitors directly from Google Plus.

Social media is now playing a bigger role in SEO and where your page ranks in Google.

Google Plus Communities are really the secret sauce to getting a lot of traffic on Google Plus.

They're basically like mini-forums. And they allow you to position yourself directly in front of your target prospects.

In fact, many of these communities have thousands of followers.

But like all communities, the key is to provide VALUE first.

Don't just start dropping links. You'll be the black sheep of the family.

Instead – start engaging with the community FIRST. Comment. Vote up OTHER people's content. Share OTHER people's blog posts. Start interesting conversations.

By doing this, you'll build up social equity. You'll become an authority within the market and you'll now have EARNED the opportunity to share your content.

So that whenever you have a really great piece of content, you can share it in 4-5 popular Google Plus Communities.

This topic could honestly be an entire podcast episode, so we might go into further detail in a later episode.

5. Setup Facebook Ads.

Facebook ads are one of the fastest ways to amplify your content and grow your audience.

Simply choose 3-5 highly related fan pages that your post will be promoted to. Create an eye-catching image and target the News Feed (Desktop Only).

This is the 'audience' that will see your post.

6. Convert your article into an audio that you can stream via iTunes, SoundCloud, and Stitcher Radio.

Sites like iTunes and Stitcher are opening up entirely new audiences that you can tap into. It's one of the best (still fairly untapped ways) to expland the reach of your content.

And finally, step number 7…

7. Blogger Outreach

Send 25-100 personalized emails to the top bloggers and social media influencers in your niche.

This is the exact strategy I use to generate AT LEAST 1,000+ visitors to every new blog post
we create. 25 emails will usually get you about 1,000 visitors (as long as you have good content).
Send a few more though and you'll start building a social media snowball.

Nets Eagerly <b>Promote</b> Hillary &#39;Fighting Back&#39; and &#39;Taking on Critics <b>...</b>

Posted: 30 May 2014 06:13 PM PDT

Hillary Clinton is managing to do what conservatives cannot: get Benghazi into the news – but only to showcase her heroic efforts to take on those awful Republicans. ABC anchor David Muir on Friday night heralded how she "is ready to fight back on Benghazi," trumpeting how a selective release from a chapter of her upcoming book shows "she's taking on her critics."

Reporter Martha Raddatz touted how "she comes out swinging. Her anger aimed at congressional Republicans who she accuses of politicizing the tragedy."

On NBC, anchor Brian Williams announced "a pre-emptive strike tonight from Hillary Clinton," marveling "it's a chapter, a whole one, from her new book."

All three broadcast network evening newscasts on Friday night featured full stories on Hillary Clinton's comments about Benghazi, picking up from the morning shows. See Kyle Drennan's "NBC and CBS Tout 'Defiant' Hillary Clinton 'On Offense' Over Benghazi."

On ABC's World News, which ignored the May 8 decision of the House to create a select committee on Benghazi, fill-in anchor Muir set up the story: "Tonight, more signs Hillary Clinton is mulling a presidential run and is ready to fight back on Benghazi. With a new book coming, Politico tonight reporting she's taking on her critics."

Raddatz began her panegyrical report:

The revelations in Politico, about Hillary Clinton's upcoming book, are the first indication of how she would handle the fallout from Benghazi if she decides to run for President. And according to the online publication, she comes out swinging. Her anger aimed at congressional Republicans who she accuses of politicizing the tragedy. "I will not be a part of a political slugfest on the backs of dead Americans," writes Clinton according to Politico...

Over on the May 30 NBC Nightly News, Williams introduced a full story:

As Congress prepares for new hearings on the deadly attack on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi, Libya, a pre-emptive strike tonight from Hillary Clinton. It's a chapter, a whole one, from her new book aimed at deflecting the criticism that is certain to emerge from those hearings as she plans for a possible run for the White House.
